Dear there ,
I owe you an honest moment before anything else.
The last two newsletters did not arrive. Not because I forgot, and not because the work stopped mattering. August came in with a weight I did not fully anticipate, and it asked me to be present to my own life in a way that left very little room for anything else.
I was traveling. I was doing the kind of physical and emotional work that does not announce itself as significant until you are standing in the middle of it and realize your hands are shaking. Closing out a chapter of my life that had been waiting, patiently and then not so patiently, for me to come back and finish it. The kind of work that looks like logistics from the outside and feels like excavation from the inside.
I am back. I am still integrating. And I want you to know that the silence was not absence. It was the Roots Before the Wind theme living itself out in real time, in my actual life, in ways I could not have scripted.
The roots held. I will tell you more about that soon.
For now, here is what I want to share with you today.
Something is happening this week that I want to share not as an announcement, but as a reflection on what it means to show up fully in the moments that ask for all of you.
This week I am stepping into an expanded space of professional visibility. I will be among colleagues and community at one of the gatherings I hold most dear in my practice, the Black Yoga Teacher Alliance 10th Anniversary Conference, as both event support and a panel speaker. Ten years of an organization that was built to hold, develop, and celebrate Black yoga teachers. And I get to be inside that room, contributing at a level that asks for the full range of what I know and who I am.
I will not pretend that does not feel significant. It does.
What Makes It Possible
Here is what I know to be true: I could not show up for this week the way I intend to without the work I have been doing all year.
Not the logistical preparation. The interior preparation.
FEEL taught me to name what I am actually experiencing rather than managing it into something more presentable. PAUSE gave me the space to respond to the complexity of coordinating something at this scale rather than reacting to it. REST reminded me that my capacity for contribution is directly tied to my willingness to protect my energy before I give it. CARRY helped me put down what was not mine to hold so I could arrive with my hands free for what actually matters.
Permission to be Human was never abstract for me. It was always practice. And this week is one of the moments it was being built for.
When I say these books support an unhurried, embodied, sovereign life, I mean my own life, first. I mean this week, specifically. I mean August, in all of what it actually was.
Showing Up Whole
There is a difference between showing up prepared and showing up whole. Prepared means you have done the work, you know your material, you can perform the role competently. Whole means all of that and something more. It means your nervous system is regulated enough to be genuinely present rather than just functional. It means your body is in the room, not just your output.
The preparation for wholeness is not the same as the preparation for performance. It is quieter. It is the reflection practice the night before. The morning movement that settles the body before the day makes its demands. The deliberate choice not to fill every moment with more preparation when what you actually need is stillness.
Whatever significant moment is waiting for you, professional, personal, relational, it is asking for the whole of you. Not the edited version. Not the managed version. The woman who has done the work and trusts it.
Permission to be Human
Seven books.
Seven dimensions of the interior life.
FEEL, PAUSE, REST, CARRY, BODY, PACE, ENOUGH.
Each one a complete practice on its own.
Together, a full architecture of the sovereign self.
This was never about doing less.
It was about doing everything from a different center.
ENOUGH is that center named.
